Anna Marie Prater

Anna Marie Prater passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the age of 93 after an extended illness. She was born to the late Eddie and Rachel Julia (Hannah) Hackworth on August 23, 1932.

She married Kyle Prater on September 29, 1951. They had six children.

She is survived by Glenda Wann (James) of Evansville, Chester Prater (Terri) of Bluffton, Jeffrey Prater of Rochester, and Norman Prater (Kathy) of Akron.

She is also survived by sisters Edna Carol, Genoia, and Donna of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, sixteen grandchildren, many great grandchildren and 2 great -great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kyle, daughters Linda Miller (survived by Rickey Miller) and Brenda Smith. Also, siblings Margie, William, Ross, Ishmael and Dewey.

Anna was a homemaker noted for her outstanding cookies and candy. She worked for Chamberlain Products of Akron and lastly as a CNA at Timbercrest Nursing Home for eighteen years and was praised for her work and dedication. She was also a passionate gardener with boundless energy.
 
The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Thursday, May 14, 2026 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana with Pastor Todd Rhymer officiating. The funeral service is available at: https://youtu.be/ajquPTQL7f8
 
The interment will take place following the funeral service in the Akron Cemetery, Akron, Indiana next to her husband.
 
Visitation hours will be held from 1 pm to 3 pm, Thursday, May 14, 2026 at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, Indiana.
 
Donations in Anna’s honor may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a local Hospice.
