Richard Claire Gebhart, 72, of Walkerton, formerly of the Argos community

Richard Claire Gebhart, 72, of Walkerton, and formerly of the Argos community, passed away November 14, 2025, at 4:52 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana. 

On June 3, 1953, in Lafayette, Indiana Richard was born to Franklin Ferdinand Gebhart and Emma Laverne Hutts. He had lived in Argos, Indiana for the past 8 years, having lived in Cresswell, Oregon for many years prior.

Richard worked as a skilled Professional Painter throughout his working career and enjoyed art, blues music and his faith. He had also worked as a ticket agent for Greyhound and a CNA over the years.

He was a graduate of Elkhart Central High School with the class of 1971. He was a Veteran and served in the Army.

He attended Lane Community College in Oregon and participated in the American Indian Language Project .

Wherever Richard lived you could find him visiting most everyone, he always helped everyone and you got lots of teasing. He loved fishing and listening to Nat King Cole and Anita Baker. 

Most recently attended Argos United Methodist and grew up in the Lifeline Ministry with Irv Polk in Elkhart Indiana.

He was a past member of the American Legion in Lafayette, Indiana.

Richard is survived by his sister – Wanda Jo Lang of Eugene, Oregon

Brothers – Michael R. Hammonds and wife Serena of Springfield, Oregon and Gerald W. DeBore of Elkhart, Indiana

Cousin – Melissa (Underhill) Funk and husband Jerry of South Bend, Indiana

 Nieces and nephews from Elkhart Indiana and many many friends in Oregon. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and K-9 friend Poketa and cat Tug Boat.
