Discussion continued Thursday by the Lawrenceville City Council on the recent compliance commitment agreement entered into by the city with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) regarding allegations of several violations concerning its sanitary sewer system. It was the first formal meeting of the group since Mayor David Courtney announced the move Monday.

The agreement calls for the city to make several operational and reporting changes in the department. There was some public discussion about operator licensing certifications which became intense, but no formal actions were taken. The mayor reiterated that the city is committed to working with the IEPA to come into compliance.

The council did approve the annual tax levy ordinance on first reading, with formal passage in the future.

A $1000 appropriation was made by the city to the Lawrence-Allison Fire Protection District (LAFPD) towards the acquisition of a new firefighter rehab unit.

Police chief Jim White also set Halloween trick-or-treat hours for Friday, October 31st from 5 until 8 p.m. CT.
