County Attorney Sean Surrisi presented the County Commissioners with a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the drones that were recently purchased for area fire department use, using funds from the County’s Safety Grant.

The new drones are equipped with spotlights, a loudspeaker, thermal imaging, and other features that will benefit emergency service agencies in the county in a number of ways. While the drones will be housed at the Plymouth Fire Department, the County shall maintain ownership of the drones and cover their insurance costs. They will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, although the county can reallocate the use if a higher public safety priority arises while they are in use.

Those agencies wishing to have access to the drones must have an executed MOU with the county.  The drones are to be operated by operators who are properly trained and hold any applicable licenses or credentials.

The County Commissioners approved the Memorandum of Understanding pending approval from the county’s insurance carrier, Bliss McKnight.
