The school year for Parkside Elementary School in Lawrenceville will not begin on Friday, August 21st as previously planned.
Lawrence Unit #20 Superintendent Doug Daugherty issued a statement this week to parents and reported to the Board of Education that the school is now scheduled to open on Tuesday, August 25th. It was to have begun classes on Wednesday, August 12th.
The latest delay was caused by the failure of air testing in one room in the building on Tuesday, August 18th. That room was to be cleaned and fogged again on Wednesday, August 19th with another air sample to be taken and tested. But those results were no expected back until late Thursday, August 20th or early on Friday, August 21st so the decision was made to push the opening back until that Tuesday date.
The revised opening schedule now has a Teacher's Institute on Monday, August 24th with a Meet the Teachers session for parents and students that afternoon from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. Students and staff will have the first day on Tuesday, the 25th.
