Open House Parke-Vermillion County Humane Society

HILLSDALE, Ind. — The Parke-Vermillion County Humane Society will be celebrating
the 25 th anniversary of the opening of the shelter on Sunday, Nov. 16.
The shelter will be hosting an open house that will include microchipping and pet
portraits. Adoption specials will also be part of the event.
Microchips will be offered for $15 per pet and visitors can bring in either cats or dogs to
be microchipped. Microchips are a permanent identification tag, implanted under the
skin of animals, which contains a unique number that can be read by a scanner.
For pet lovers looking for a great portrait opportunity, the shelter will be set up for fall pet
portraits with a photographer on hand. Pet photos will be donation based. Pet photos
will only be available electronically so everyone participating will have to provide a valid
email address.
For anyone looking for their new best friend we will be offering an adoption special of
$25 for any cat or dog over the age of six months. Puppies and kittens will have regular
pricing. The great folks at Cheers Trailer will be bringing their drinks trailer to provide a
variety of dirty sodas, lemonade shake-ups, energy drinks and loaded teas.
For people bringing their pets for microchipping or pet portraits, please have all animals
wearing a collar or harness and on a leash. Cats must be in pet carriers. Cats coming
for portraits can be taken out of carriers but must be on a leash.
The event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the shelter located at 1884 S. State Road 63
(just behind the Vermillion County Jail).
Residents of Parke and Vermillion counties worked for nine years to raise the funds and
get the shelter up and running. It opened to the public in November of 2000.
