After 16 years in the classroom, Megan Puckett is making a move.
The veteran teacher was named the new Cloverdale Elementary School assistant principal recently and will make the transition beginning with the 2025-26 academic year.
"I knew early on that education would be a wonderful career while raising a family. The schedule allows for more time with my family, and being on a similar calendar as my children is something I truly value. It’s given me the opportunity to be present both as a parent and a professional, which is something I’m very grateful for. I also have a family full of educators who have been incredible role models for me and inspired me to follow in their footsteps," Puckett told The Putnam County Post.
While there have been changes over the years, one thing has remained for Puckett and that is the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students and see them grow both academically and personally.
"It is incredibly rewarding to see a student gain confidence, discover a new strength, or reach their goal," Puckett said.
Puckett said over the years she has had the "privilege of working with incredible students, colleagues and families," and looks forward to continuing that in her new role within the district.
"My experience in the classroom has given me a strong foundation for this new role. I’ve learned how important it is to listen, to stay flexible, and to always keep what's best for students at the center of every decision. Cloverdale Elementary has a collaborative spirit and I have learned so much from everyone here, and it is because of our incredible staff that I feel prepared for the next step," Puckett said.
And, being able to continue her education profession in Cloverdale is something that means a lot to her.
"Cloverdale is a special place because of the people. There’s a true sense of community here and the relationships built here go beyond the walls of the school. What truly sets Cloverdale apart is that every single person—whether it’s our janitors, aides, office staff, administrators, or teachers—is here for the kids. I'm honored to step into this new role in a school that I already love so much, and I’m excited to help continue the great work happening at Cloverdale," Puckett admitted.
As she winds down the school year in the classroom and transitions to a new role, Puckett does so with a focus on several goals.
"My main goal as assistant principal is to be supportive and committed to lifting up the great work already happening here. I’m here to be a resource and a partner for students, staff, and families. Cloverdale is already an incredible school, filled with passionate educators, a caring staff, and amazing students," she said.
She also has a message to faculty and staff, as well as students when it comes to being assistant principal.
"To the faculty, I see the dedication you bring to your work and the long hours you put in every single day, and I’m ready to support you in any way I can. We’re in this together, and I truly believe great things happen when passionate people work as a team.To the students, you are the heart of this school. Believe in yourself, ask for help when you need it, and know that we’re all here to help you grow," Puckett said.
