With only two days left before the beginning of the 2026-27 school term, Lawrence Unit #20 Superintendent Doug Gaugherty has issued an update on the status of Parkside Elementary School. The school remains closed after the discovery of mold inside the building after some inside summer repair work.
As of Friday, August 8th, two wings of the building have been cleaned and tested. All but three classrooms have passed the air quality testing. Those three will cleaned again in the upcoming days and will have to be retested.
Two other wings, the cafeteria, kitchen, gymnasium, library and office area still need to be thoroughly cleaned and tested before school can commence. Once the wings pass inspection, teachers and staff will be allowed into their areas. Students will not be back into the building until every room passes inspection and air quality testing. Daugherty indicated that a firm date for that to be completed is still unknown.
Both Parkview Junior High and Lawrenceville High School will begin classes Wednesday and follow the regular school calendar.
