Marshall County Communications Supervisor Zach McGuigan was conducting a routine review of the Marshall County Dispatch Center’s calls when he came across one he brought to Sheriff Matt Hassel’s attention.
A brief explanation of the events states that on January 21, 2025, Nichole Law assisted in a 911 call the center received, and the gentleman who had called in was having a medical emergency. It was very hard for dispatcher Law to understand.
McGuigan said the situation was made even more difficult since the call received was from a 911 prefix. He told the sheriff. “These calls can be problematic for dispatchers as they rarely have an exact location, and there is no way for us to call them back.
She used her training and experience. Law never gave up, and ultimately, officers were successful in finding his location and were able to send him help.
The Communication Supervisor said in a letter to the sheriff, “I am proud of the actions that Nichole took that early morning. She exemplified how dedicated our dispatchers are and how, no matter what the situation is, they will never give up. I believe a commendation is well deserved.”
On Tuesday, Sheriff Matthew Hassel recognized and congratulated 911 dispatcher Nichole Law.
McGuigan also asked Sheriff Hassel to recognize Kennedy Tennant, who earned National recognition for Excellence in dispatching through the National Emergency Number Association (NENA).
This distinguished achievement is awarded to Dispatchers who have completed at least three advanced dispatch courses within two years. Receiving this recognition shows that our Dispatchers are highly trained and will always strive to provide exceptional emergency services to the communities we serve.
Communication Supervisor McGuigan said, “Training is a top priority for our 911 Dispatchers, and we take great pride in recognizing these individuals for their hard work and dedication.”
Tennant received her certificate from NENA and was provided with a Marshall County Dispatch challenge coin for her achievement.
