Friday storm damage means no school at Taylor Elementary on Monday.
Straight line winds lifted the protective roof off of the gym portion of the school. It peeled back down a hallway of classrooms.
According to school officials, at this point, they believe that there was no structural damage other than the roof and the ceiling tiles in the school. There is a lot of water damage due to the large amount of rain.
A crew was in to clean up the water damage. Roofers will button up the roof with concerns of more rain Sunday and beyond. A structural engineer will ensure that the rest of the building can be used while the construction happens on the damaged areas.
As of the school's posting, the plan is for Taylor Elementary to receive a waiver day on Monday. The elementary students would stay home for the day. Middle and High School students will attend as normal. On Monday, the staff will reconfigure the space in the rest of the building to accommodate the classrooms that will be unusable due to the damage. Kids will return to Taylor Elementary on Tuesday.
