
More than 100 runners, including for the first time a group of third graders, competed Tuesday in the Shelbyville Elementary Cross Country Meet at Blue River Memorial Park’s cross country venue.
Coulston Elementary (photo) won the girls meet while Hendricks Elementary took first place in the boys meet.
St. Joseph’s Daleyza Leon-Torres won the 2000-meter girls race in eight minutes, 35.85 seconds – less than one second off the elementary meet record set by Hannah Baker in 2018 (8:35.18).
Also finishing in the top 10 in the girls race were Hendricks’ Peyton Jones (8:46.29), Coulston’s Anna Catania (9:10.68), Loper’s Lauren Wilson (9:10.81), Coulston’s Stella Shook (9:13.02), Coulston’s Marjorie Stevens (9:39.07), Coulston’s Avery Stevens (10:13.29), St. Joseph’s Regina Delgadillo (10:16.57), Coulston’s Momoe Tsuwano (10:25.34) and Loper’s Nariah Seelye (10:26.85).
Coulston’s 30 team points outdistanced Loper (59), St. Joseph (60) and Hendricks (85) for the championship.
Coulston had five of the top 10 finishers.
Hendricks (photo) won the boys championship with 42 points. St. Joseph was runner-up at 55 ahead of Loper (55) and Coulston (64).
Loper’s Ezekiel Blackburn won the boys race in 8:11.13.
Also finishing in the top 10 were Coulston’s Lucas Wilson (8:25.56), Hendricks’ Kyson Ash (8:32.48), St. Joseph’s Grady Johnson (8:34.01), Hendricks’ Jensen DeBoard (8:38.36), Coulston’s Wesley Williams (8:38.72), Hendricks’ Logan Zimny (8:40.02), Hendricks’ Drayden Watson (8:56.81), St. Joseph’s Josiah Kolkmeier (9:00.20) and Loper’s Ben Isley (9:01.07).
