South Decatur gained confidence early, created a double-digit lead and never let Morristown back into the game Wednesday to secure a 61-46 sectional victory at Edinburgh High School.
Four different Cougars scored in double digits to keep pressure on the Yellow Jackets. Drake Scaggs finished with 17 points. Karson Templeton followed with 15. Lucas Ballard had 13 and Tayedin Traylor added 12.
South Decatur led 19-13 after one quarter then outscored the Yellow Jackets 14-7 in the second quarter to build a 33-20 halftime lead.
Morristown cut the lead to 46-36 after three quarters and got as close as eight points in the fourth quarter before the Cougars pulled away.
Brayden Keithley led Morristown (10-13) with 17 points. Colin Kieninger finished with 12 and Kellen Crim had nine.
The semifinals at the Edinburgh Sectional are now set. In the first game Friday at 6 p.m., Waldron (12-11) takes on North Decatur (12-13). The host Lancers (12-12), who defeated Tri in overtime 42-31 Wednesday, faces South Decatur (6-18) in the second game.
The sectional championship is Saturday night at Edinburgh.
