Baird sees two more bills make way through General Assembly

It has been a productive Indiana General Assembly session for Greencastle Republican Beau Baird as he saw two more of his bills make their way through the Statehouse.

Baird saw a measure pertaining to lab-grown meat moratorium and study pass the Senate 41-6, and a bill for equine dentistry access at Indiana racetracks pass 47-0.

The measure pertaining to lab grown meat would place a one year moratorium on the manufacturing and sale of lab grown meat in Indiana. The moratorium would allow the Indiana Department of Health and Indiana State Department of Agriculture to conduct a full study on the safety, impact and future regulations.

As for the equine dentistry bill, it ensures that thousands of racehorses at Indiana's horse tracks will receive proper equine dental care. Under the measure, qualified dental providers who are not licensed veterinarians can perform essential dental work exclusively at the tracks.

"The second half of the session is going really well. Passing legislation through your own chamber is one thing, but building strong relationships in the other chamber is crucial to getting bills across the finish line," Baird told The Putnam County Post.

In addition, a prescribed burn bill authored by Baird has made its way out of committee and is expected to pass by the end of the week.

"That leaves just my foreign trained physician bill on the Senate side to be finalized. Additionally, I have two Senate bills that were sent to me and are now making their way through the House process. Overall, things are moving smoothly, and I am optimistic about finishing the session strong," Baird said.
