The Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Department has a busy December schedule of events planned.
Here are some of the key dates to remember.
DIY and Dessert
This artistic event is for children ages 6-12.
Each young artist will receive a craft kit to paint during the two-hour event on Dec. 6 at 9 a.m. in the activity room at the parks department’s civic center.
Cookies and milk will be available to enjoy.
Registration fee is $25 per artist. Space is limited. Register online at www.shelbyparks.com or use the parks department’s app.
Gingerbread Creation Class
This gingerbread house building event is family oriented. It will take place Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. at the civic center.
Registration fee is $20 per kit and due Dec. 4. Space is limited.

Winter Camp
Registration is open for Winter Camp which will run Dec. 22, Dec. 23 and Dec. 26 (week one) and Dec. 29, Dec. 30 and Jan. 2 (week two) at the parks department, 945 S. Tompkins St.
The camp is for children ages 6-12. Drop off is from 7 to 9 a.m. and pick up is 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Registration fee is $60 for one week or $100 for both weeks. Children will receive a camp T-shirt. The camp will include winter games, ice skating, and arts and crafts.

Snowman Building Contest
The parks department is conducting a snowman building contest this winter.
The contest begins Dec. 20 with judging taking place on March 2.
Once you build a snowman, submit a photo of the snowman with your name to parks@cityofshelbyville.com. Multiple submissions may be entered.
Photos and first names will be shared on Shelbyville, Indiana Parks and Recreation Department Facebook page.
Letters to Santa
The parks department will send letters to Santa again this holiday season.
Letters should be dropped into the special mailbox in front of Santa’s headquarters in downtown Shelbyville.
The drop off period is Dec. 5 to Dec. 14. Letters received after Dec. 14 are not guaranteed a reply from Santa.
